Hi Eliza

Computer medicated communication can be classified as synchronous and asynchronous according to the respond time. "Asynchronous CMC - where conference participants write and upload messages to a conference at a time to suit their own convenience" (JISC infoNet, 2004). e.g. chart room, ICQ, MSN, Skype, VocalTec, Net2Phone. On the other hand, "Synchronous CMC is often known as real-time chat" (JISC infoNet, 2004). e.g. e-mail, forums, blog, wiki,Gong, Google talk.

Doris,

You explain clearly what is synchronous vs asynchronous CMC. But the research topic on this is still too broad to be studied, would like to narrow down to compare one representative from each group. For example, will you compare chat room vs Google talk, then it will be much easier to compare and contrast.
